Welcome to the Health Systems Action Network (HSAN)!

HSAN History

The HSAN network was launched in 2005 with 31 founding members (PDF, 322 KB) from over 20 countries.

HSAN provides a much needed platform for health systems stakeholders to exchange ideas and increase understanding, at both the global and country level, of strong health systems needed to achieve health priorities.  HSAN shares what is known across countries by linking health systems leaders through a global network and provides a channel for members to offer input into global and donor initiatives so that programs best serve country priorities.

HSAN Co-Chair Message

Dear HSAN supporters,

Greetings!! Let me start by welcoming our new members. As you are all aware from previous updates, HSAN has been actively seeking to expand its membership. During April and May, we sent out invitations to various listservs inviting individuals to join HSAN. I am happy to inform members that we have had an overwhelming response to the invitation, which is a very positive move.

We now have around 46 new members who have joined HSAN and bring with them a wealth of experience and diversity that will be instrumental in taking HSAN forward in the months and years to come.

Also in April and May HSAN has seen significant movement in activities which include:

  • Setting up a HSAN bank account, established in Uganda. Two HSAN co-chairs have signing authority
  • Hiring a consultant to establish financial management and reporting
  • Submission of an applicant (Edwin) to represent CSO's on the GAVI Alliance
  • Exploration of options for contracting out HSAN web maintenance and regular updates
  • Beginnings of setting up an advisory committee for HSAN
  • An ATE session is planned some time between end June and early July
  • Expansion of HSAN membership
  • Following up with donors on pending HSAN proposals and new proposal

HSAN has been steadily establishing its infrastructure step by step and the coming months are sure to be busy. There are many opportunities for members to actively participate in different activities and contribute to the development of the network.

Best regards,
Arvind Betigeri
