Welcome to the Health Systems Action Network (HSAN)!

HSAN History

The HSAN network was launched in 2005 with 31 founding members (PDF, 322 KB) from over 20 countries.

HSAN provides a much needed platform for health systems stakeholders to exchange ideas and increase understanding, at both the global and country level, of strong health systems needed to achieve health priorities.  HSAN shares what is known across countries by linking health systems leaders through a global network and provides a channel for members to offer input into global and donor initiatives so that programs best serve country priorities.

HSAN Co-Chair Message

Dear HSAN supporters,

Greetings! It hasbeen a while since the last update on HSAN activities in December 2007.  A lot of activities have happened during the past 4 months.

Recently, HSAN was formally registered as a 501(c) 3 non-profit entity in the United States.  Donations made to the network can now be classified as tax-exempt.

Also, Dr. Samson Kironde, co-chair from Africa region, attended the first global conference on human resources for health in Uganda. Dr. Kironde managed to talk to a large number of participants about HSAN and its activities and distributed HSAN flyers to interested individuals during the conference.

The Global Health Council has recently started a new initiative called the Health Systems Initiative Network, the first meeting of which was held on 12 March 2008.  HSAN member Edwin Bolastig attended the meeting and recommended that HSAN participate in future meetings of this network and strategize a potential role for itself as part of this initiative.

HSAN member Andrey Ostrovsky has been actively pursuing a possible collaboration with the Global Health Initiative at Boston University's School of Public Health to work with HSAN to develop a course on HSS.  Andrey will work with HSAN members to develop HSAN's strategy after a meeting in May with the director of the Global Health Initiative at Boston University.

HSAN has made good progress so far, but a lot more needs to be done. HSAN’s membership continues to grow and we always welcome more members. The wider the HSAN membership and representation, the stronger its voice!!

Regards,
