Welcome to the Health Systems Action Network (HSAN)!

HSAN History

The HSAN network was launched in 2005 with 31 founding members (PDF, 322 KB) from over 20 countries.

HSAN GHC 2007

HSAN provides a much needed platform for health systems stakeholders to exchange ideas and increase understanding, at both the global and country level, of strong health systems needed to achieve health priorities.  HSAN shares what is known across countries by linking health systems leaders through a global network and provides a channel for members to offer input into global and donor initiatives so that programs best serve country priorities.

Ask the Expert Series

From cost to poor quality services, or from stigma to gender inequity, there are many obstacles to inclusive health care. On the bright side, there are increasingly innovative interventions to circumvent these obstacles.

HSAN members Xiaolin Wei and Tarry Asoka will lead the fourth "Ask the Expert" session on these interventions and focus on financial risk protection for the poor.

HSAN Co-Chair Message

Dear HSAN supporters,

HSAN is continuing to expand membership and establish itself as an independent and sustainable organization. Here are some of the many developments HSAN has experienced over the last couple months:

  • HSAN has been awarded a grant from USAID through the Health Systems 20/20 Project to expand awareness of the network, develop a HSS workshop and to assume more administrative responsibilities.
  • HSAN formed an an advisory committee and the first call was held on 17 July with the HSAN co-chairs and members of the secretariat. The HSAN Advisory Committee includes members from the World Bank, USAID, the Global AIDS Alliance, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others.
  • Steps were taken to formally develop the three HSAN subcommittees described in the bylaws. Volunteers for each group were sought and draft workplans were developed. We hope that these subcommittees will take off over the next few months!
  • HSAN launched a membership expansion campaign, posting an invitation to apply to join to several list servs. Additionally a few members launched individual efforts to expand membership in their respective regions. Currently, the organization has about 140 members and a mailing list of more than 1,000 individuals.
  • HSAN member Andrey Ostrovksy is exploring development of a course on HSS. He also developed an article on HSS (which will include an introduction to HSAN) which will be submitted later this year to a new publication from Medsin and student Lancet.
  • A virtual annual meeting of all HSAN members took place during the last week of July.

Thank you to all our members and supporters who remain committed to the development of HSAN. Please contact info@hsanet.org should you like to reach any of the co-chairs with comments or suggestions.

Sincerely,
HSAN Co-chairs:
