I have created a site to make the process of involving students with my Health System activities more efficient in the future:
http://healthsystemsstewards.wordpress.com/opportunities-for-collaboration/global-health-research/.
Here are some ideas that I’ve had for global health research. I only ask that you notify me if you develop one of these ideas so that we avoid duplication):
-Review the initial USAID, PEPFAR, GF, etc. proposals, and then evolution: were there provisions for HSS? -Review history of aid in any given community; where did it come from, who got it, timeline, etc. -Review major behavior theories, and how health programs affect the behavior of health managers in developing countries. -Behavior theories and how they fit into HSIAs -Review the evidence of household interventions in health. -Review the link between health and human rights, and health systems strengthening. -Methodology for HSIAs: one for major health initiatives, others for NGOs, etc.?? -Steps taken by successful global health programs (BRAC, Jamkhed, AS, Search, Matlab, etc.) to mitigate donors’ underlying motives. -Definition of health system -“Health Diplomacy” -Survey of countries/communities: does funding and/or HS structure fit disease burden/anticipated disease burden? -Survey of all vertical programs: which have HS provisions, and what is lacking? -Management principles and their application to health system development. -What effect do externally-funded programs have on the market forces in health? -Historical survey of targeted health programs: how many have been successful? -Trust and HS (see Easterly, p. 80) -Effect of unpredictable funding on ability to handle money, budget, etc. -Effect of unpredictable funding on laws, customs, and property rights (Easterly p. 92) -Link between humanitarian/Charity work and health systems strengthening. -NNT, other evidence-based measure indicators for global health -HS and capacity building -HSA and culture -Training and HSAs -Lessons learned from AIDS for social mobilization, etc. on HS
